Error "Operation canceled due to computer limitations": how to deal with it?

Today, in almost all Windows operating systems, when trying to access, say, the system registry, the Group Policy Reactor or even the usual Control Panel, you can often see the appearance of a message such as "Operation canceled due to computer limitations". Let's see why this situation arises, and how to deal with it.

When is the most common warning message "Operation canceled due to computer limitations"?

When considering the problem, two most frequently encountered variants can be distinguished: perhaps the operation has been interrupted due to limitations imposed on the computer by the administrator, or may be caused by viruses and malicious programs.

However, other versions of the mistakes are not excluded, but we will dwell on the most important points and suggest a technique for correcting such a situation.

Possible explanation of the error

Indeed, both options, as they say, have a place to be. The first case is quite simple. If access to certain functions or components of the operating system is really blocked by the administrator of the terminal or by the network administrator, everything is clear. We will have to address them, so that the restrictions are lifted. In this there is nothing to worry about.

But if a user on his own terminal is himself an administrator, and no one else in the system is no longer registered or working, the appearance of a message that an attempt to access that and that is canceled due to computer restrictions, to put it mildly , Causes bewilderment. How did it happen?

And it happened because of interference in the work of the virus system, which today has become much more selective, if I may say so, than before. By and large, they attack not the entire system, but only its individual components, and as a consequence, we are faced with a partial loss of administrator rights. However, it is possible to fight against this. To do this, of course, is not easy, but now we will consider how to bring your computer to a normal state.

Method of correction: virus scan

So, we have a situation when any operation of access to certain services or components of the system is canceled due to restrictions on the computer. Most often this concerns, as already mentioned, the start of the system registry or other services.

The first thing to do is to use some powerful antivirus. Of course, you can use the regular software installed in the system, but if it has already missed the virus, there is no guarantee that even with an in-depth scan with the latest signature databases this will give the result. It is best to use independent utilities (you can even portable versions). Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool and Dr. Web Cure It! However, any other will do.

Step Two: Using the AVZ Utility

Now, if the system issues a warning again that the operation was canceled due to computer limitations, we will restore access to the necessary components.

For this we need a very interesting utility AVZ. In it, you need to select the Troubleshooting Wizard, the so-called Troubleshooting Wizard. We call the "File" main menu, and start the scan.

In theory, when the process is over, the results will show that, as a rule, five main services are blocked. This is the system registry, the Explorer, the "My Computer" section with the administrative menu, the Task Manager and the command line. Naturally, depending on the degree of exposure to the virus, the list can include other services, for example, the same Control Panel.

Now select all the items that appear and click on the Fix selected issues button.

Removing System Registry Components

That the message "Operation canceled due to computer limitations ..." does not appear again, this "treatment" of the computer system can not be completed. It remains to do one more operation.

At the moment, access to previously blocked services has been restored. Of these, we are interested in the system registry. We go into the editor using the command regedit, which is entered in the "Run" menu or in the command line, after which we refer to the HOTKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE section and in the Software sub-section we gradually go down the tree until the Explorer line appears.

In the window to the right there will be many incomprehensible NoViewOnDrive entries. It must be removed immediately (select and press the Del key). The system will issue a security warning marked with a yellow triangle with an exclamation point. Nothing wrong. We press the OK button, close the editor and reboot the system. Only now you can be sure that all restrictions are removed. "The operation is canceled ..." or messages like this will not bother you more.

You can use the Group Policy Editor, but it only duplicates entries in the system registry, which is much easier to work with in this particular case.

The result

In conclusion, I want to say that although the method of correcting such unpleasant situations for some users may seem too abstruse, nevertheless, of all the existing methods, this is the most effective one.

Some, however, try to download registration files (. Reg) from the "left" sites for automatic correction or use some automated utilities. However, in most known cases, this does not bring a particularly tangible result, since in the automatic machine such programs act selectively and very carefully, to put it mildly, excluding gross interference with the system (in our case, in the system registry).

By the way, the templates of registration files downloaded from the Internet, too, do not suit every specific situation. In addition, and they can be exposed to the virus at the time of loading on the computer terminal.
