Drops "Dexona": instructions, indications, application and feedback

Drops of "Dexon" - a combined remedy, simultaneously applied in otorhinolaryngology, and in ophthalmology. Have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect. Let's take a closer look at this remedy and find out under what diseases "Dexona" helps (eye drops). Instructions for use, composition and other information are presented in the article.

Forms of production of the drug "Dexona"

To begin with it is worth noting that the Indian manufacturer offers several forms of means:

  • A solution used for intravenous and intramuscular administration.
  • Pills.
  • Eye and ear drops are a colorless sterile solution (sometimes light yellow).
  • Ointment.

This article will focus on the eye and ear drops of "Dexon".

Composition

In 1 ml of the drug in question, the active ingredients are:

  • Neomycin sulfate (5 mg) is a bactericidal antibiotic of the aminoglycoside group. Violates protein synthesis in microbial cells. Has an effect on most representatives of microflora, with the exception of P. Aeruginosa, the majority of streptococci, as well as fungi, anaerobic infections and viruses. Resistance to this antibiotic is manifested rather weakly and very slowly, which, undoubtedly, is a virtue in the fight against pathogenic microorganisms.
  • Dexamethasone sodium phosphate (1 mg) is a glucocorticosteroid, which simultaneously possesses anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory and desensitizing properties. The combination of dexamethasone and an antibacterial agent in the drops of "Dexon" reduces the risk of developing the infectious process. Despite the advantages, there is a drawback: a small amount of dexamethasone enters the systemic circulation, which is a potential threat of various side effects.
  • Excipients - preservative benzalkonium chloride, disodium hydrogen hydrogen phosphate, sodium chloride, disodium EDTA, sodium metabisulphite, propylene glycol, creatinine, water for injection.

Indications for use

"Dexona" is a hormone-glucocorticosteroid, which has not only anti-inflammatory and antiallergic effects, but also immunosuppressive and anti-shock. Indications for the use of drops are diseases:

  • Infectious and allergic pathologies of the external ear.
  • Acute and chronic forms of such diseases as bacterial blepharitis, iridocyclitis, conjunctivitis, keratitis (provided there is no damage to the epithelium).
  • Acute and chronic otitis externa.

In addition, drops of "Dexon" are prescribed and for preventive purposes, to prevent the onset of inflammation of the anterior part of the eye after various surgical interventions.

Contraindications

The list of contraindications is quite wide:

  • Sensitivity to the components of the drug.
  • Chickenpox.
  • Mycobacterial infections of the eye.
  • Keratitis.
  • Viral diseases of the conjunctiva and cornea.
  • Fungal pathology of the eye.
  • Lactation period.
  • Childhood.
  • Application after the operative removal of a foreign object from the cornea of the eye.

Side effects

As with most of the medicines, the Dexona has a number of possible side effects:

  1. Allergic reactions, based on the presence in the drug antibiotic neomycin. Appear in the form of itching, redness of the conjunctiva and swelling of the eyelids.
  2. Complications from the visual organ (due to the presence of dexamethasone in the composition) - slowing down the wound healing process, the emergence of the risk of glaucoma and increased intraocular pressure, optic nerve damage, cataract formation of the subcapsular form.
  3. The development of secondary infection (due to the combination of neomycin and dexamethasone) due to the suppression of the body's immunity with an antibiotic with a simultaneous increase in the inflammatory process.
  4. Perforation of the fibrous membrane of the eye occurs due to treatment with drops of diseases leading to thinning of the cornea or sclera.
  5. Fungal infection, the development of fungal infestation can occur due to the prolonged use of the drug "Dexona" (drops).

Instructions for use

1. Treatment of eye diseases. Dosage of the drug, regardless of the disease and its form, unchanged - 1-2 drops. The difference is only in the frequency of application: with light and moderately expressed forms of eye disease, the drug should be instilled into the conjunctival sac every 4-6 hours. In severe infectious process, the agent is recommended to apply every hour, gradually reducing the frequency of instillations as the manifestation of the inflammatory process decreases.

2. Treatment of ear diseases. As noted earlier, in addition to eye diseases, ear infections also use "Dexona". Ear drops, regardless of the form of the disease, are instilled in 3-4 drops at a frequency of 2-4 times a day until the symptoms disappear completely.

Overdose

Specific cases of drug overdose "Dexona" medicine are unknown. However, local reaction can not be ruled out with excessive use of drops. If any symptoms of an overdose are revealed, stop using the drug immediately. The main rule - treatment should be symptomatic: a reaction appeared - drops do not fit, they should be abandoned in favor of another remedy.

Interaction with other drugs

With what drugs is incompatible means "Dexona" (drops)? Instruction for use recommends not combining the drug with such medicines:

  • "Streptomycin" (antibiotic group of aminoglycosides), "Monomycin" (produced by the fungus Actinomyces circulatus var., Monomycini antibiotic). Reception "Dexony" with the above mentioned means is able to enhance the ototoxic effect - this combination of chemical compounds can damage the vestibular and hearing aids, up to irreversible consequences.
  • Anesthetics (painkillers) should not be combined with "Dexon" because of the possible deterioration of neuromuscular transmission.
  • M-holinoblokatory (blocking M-holinoretseptory means that eliminate or reduce the effects of stimulation of the parasympathetic nerve) - their combined use with the droplets under consideration leads to an increase in intraocular pressure.

Use with other eye drops is possible provided that the interval of at least 10 minutes between the preparations is observed.

special instructions

The manufacturer emphasizes the fact that during pregnancy, the use of "Dexony" is advisable only for acute need and only if the potential benefit of treatment for the mother is much greater than the risk for the developing fetus.

In addition, breastfeeding is an obstacle to treatment: the components of the drug are excreted in breast milk and can harm the baby. That is why it is strongly recommended to completely stop breastfeeding while taking "Dexony".

Use of lenses during treatment with drops is prohibited. Care should be taken to ensure that the tip of the vial is not in contact with other surfaces: otherwise, the risk of re-infection is high.

Simultaneous reception of aminoglycoside antibiotics with "Dexona" requires regular monitoring of the amount of the drug in the blood serum.

Cost of preparation
