Drifter Gocha Chivchyan: biography of the athlete and photo

All drifters of our vast homeland know this person. And thanks to the documentary film Gocha / Japan, he significantly expanded his fan audience. Now at many club meetings of auto lovers often discuss a film about a guy who drifted in Japan. And this is not surprising, because Georgy Chivchyan (Gocha) became the first Russian to take part in D1GP. There he 100% surprised the ancestors and professionals of drift. In this article, a short biography of the rider will be presented.

Drift enthusiasm

Gocha Chivchyan (photo posted in the article) was born in Krasnoyarsk in 1986. He himself does not remember the moment when he was carried away by drift. But his first racing car "Nissan-Silvia" (S15) acquired in 2004 at the USS-auction. The car came with HKS racks and a lock. Of course, Gocha immediately began to practice drifting on it. Over time, the rider decided to increase the engine power. Then came the turn of the turbine, the injectors and ... went-went. Chivchyan invested in S15 all his salary. In general, by the time when the "Red Ring" (stationary race track) was built in his native city, Gocha and friends were already keen on sports cars and tuning. Also, the young man himself was engaged in the modernization of machines, opening for these purposes a small service.

Race and own shop

In 2008 Gocha Chivchyan took part in the first round competitions for the first time. On them the racer overheated and burned brake pads. It was a good experience, as the young man found out the difference between the loads on the car while riding the race track and city roads. Unfortunately, there were no new pads on his "iron horse" in Krasnoyarsk. It was then that Goce came to the idea to expand the range of his small spare parts shop for cars called "Forward Auto". A month later, on his shelves lay brake pads with various characteristics that fit any sports car he saw on the races.

Two weeks later, Chivchyan needed a radiator. Then Gocha Chivchyan bought silicone pipes. Reviews (with a photo of us looking young and good-natured guy) about his store began to spread quickly between motorists, because there you could find many necessary details. Then Gocha ordered large-size intercooler sets, fittings and hoses for the fuel system and levers on the AL. Gradually, his "Sylvia" turned into a croak. Well, the assortment of "Forward Auto" George expanded to 25 000 items. Ordering any components, Chivchyan was guided exclusively by experience (his and friends).

Continuing to participate in the ring races, Chivchyan eagerly waited for the moment when the competition program will appear drift. Over time, the young man decided to take the initiative in their own hands. Uniting with Arkady Tsaregradtsev, he began to conduct his drift-race.

Prorolling the machine

It is worth noting that the tuning program S15 did not have a finite form. With each new season Gocha Chivchyan changed the settings and knots of various elements for the car's complete readiness for the competition. After all, the requirements for technology were constantly growing, and in order to maintain a high level of competitiveness, it was necessary to resort to tuning. In drift, good results can be shown only if you work a lot on your "iron horse". For example, Chivchyan changes suspension settings 3-4 times per season. Each car has its own character, and it either comes to a certain discipline of motorsport, or it does not.

According to Gocha, his "Sylvia" was created for drift. Therefore, it is difficult to improve the S15 suspension without losing the overall balance. Although it is she who plays a key role in drift racing. Changing the characteristics of the suspension, you can force the car to go the way you need. For example, when there is a shortage of power, it is adjusted to slip the machine. With insufficient speed and pace - you need to achieve greater fixation in the back. And with poor controllability there are many variations with its adjustment.

The suspension S15 has a number of know-how. Drifter Gocha Chivchyan, whose photo can be seen on the pages of various thematic publications, tested them in the conditions of the race and launched into mass production. Now they are sold in his store. For example, on any car with S-chassis, you can install a complete set of adjustable suspension on the front and rear axles. It will function correctly and reliably even with a large reversal and understatement.

Importance of the motor

Gocha Chivchyan constantly improves the engine design of his "Sylvia". For example, it can replace the cylinder head gasket and adjust the high compression ratio. Using a more resistant to detonation fuel, the drifter will thereby increase the return and improve the response. The unit, now under the hood of S15, is called SR20VE + T. After the DET began to break rocker arm rockers (rocker), the rider thought about the use of VET-head. With their native Nissan-Sylvia motor they were always a sore spot. When the power is exceeded 350-370 liters. from. The load on the rocker increases substantially. In drift motor much more often than in other disciplines, reaches the zone of maximum revolutions and remains in it quite a long time. Because of the design features, the classic valve mechanism DET can not work reliably in such conditions. On the VET-head pushers are missing, so there are no problems with them.

Increase in speed

Engineers "Nissan" cardinally changed the design of the rocker: the cams of the camshafts through the adjusting washers transmit the force directly to the valve rods. Well, the design of the timing has acquired a system VVL, similar to the "Honda" VTEC. This helped to increase torque at low rpm and increase power at high speeds. And, of course, the most pleasant for the pilot of the car with SR20VE + T is a wider range of revolutions (from 9000 to 9,500 rpm).

Difficulties

When creating a new engine, there were difficulties. Since the "head" was taken from the engine with a transverse arrangement in the car, it was necessary to take into account many moments with the attached equipment (in S15 the unit is located longitudinally). And no manipulations with cylinder head have replaced the need for careful work with the crank-piston group, on the degree of compression of which many factors depend. Well, no one canceled the moment of the scrupulous assembly, which influences the overall reliability of the unit.

Cooling system

In an interview Gocha Chivchyan (reviews of his drift-like skills in the thematic media exclusively laudatory) stated that the design of this mechanism of "Sylvia" was quite tense. Modernization of the S15 cooling system continues to this day. Professional riders know that the linear speed of the car in the drift is significantly lower than that of the ring cars. But even on such turns the "iron horse" does not go straight, but at a certain angle to the motion vector, imposing a restriction on the radiator blowing. And the more the angle of skidding, the less their cooling. As a result, the vicious circle closes: a larger angle of drift increases the load on the engine and reduces the cooling of the radiator if it is located under the hood. The motors of the SR series with the aluminum block give their cool heat to the cooling liquid rather intensely. Therefore, in the radiator it is necessary to ensure its productive dissipation, which is a complex engineering and technical task.

D1GP

Improving the S15, drifter Gocha Chivchyan did not forget to improve his driving skills. Years of practice were not in vain. In 2013, the young man won the Super Battle. This day was a turning point not only in the life of George, but throughout the history of Russian drift. Chief race judge Alexander Smolyar told Chivchyan about the agreement between D1GP and RDS, according to which, Russian pilots can go to the stage in Odaiba (Japan). At first Gocha took this proposal as something unrealizable. The young man did not even imagine that he could be implemented. The main difficulty was to take in Japan a competitive car. In addition, at almost all stages of D1GP, a minimum amount of time is spent on training. Sometimes it was not enough to master the trajectory. And to make such not on the machine are capable only by professionals of a high class. After thinking over all this, the hero of this article decided to postpone the idea of a trip to the Asian country in the long box.

Gocha Chivchyan in Japan

Somewhere a month before the start of the D1GP Krasnoyarsk drifter on behalf of Primering and RDS-East Dmitry Dmitry Semenyuk called. He offered assistance in transporting the machine. Having finished the telephone conversation, Chivchyan was already putting the sports equipment in his bag. The decision to travel to Japan was accepted. And only when he was behind the wheel of his S15 on Odaiba, George realized what a difficult job the Dmitry Semenyuk, Vitaly Verkiyenko and the Forward Forward team had done to accomplish its goal. Although the performance on D1GP can be called their common dream. Uniting, they were able to implement it.

results

In general, the race was very good. Goce managed to get to the TOP-16, where the first competitor was Hibino Tetsuya. In the second race, the Japanese made a mistake, hooked the concrete. This led to damage to the suspension and the inability of his car to enter the skid. The Russian also performed not without errors and even managed to turn around in the final turn, but still earned more points than Tetsuya. In the top-8 hit Emmanuel Amandio - a young and talented pilot from Malaysia. Gocha Chivchyan started the first race very well, but before the finish he could not fit into the arc and collided with the opponent's car. As a result, the swivel fist S15 strongly bent and prevented the movement of the wheel. In five minutes, such a breakdown can not be eliminated, so Chivchyan withdrew from the race. George himself considers his speech successful. After all, getting into TOP-16 at races of this level is an excellent result.

Return

In 2014 Gocha Chivchyan (biography of the athlete is presented above) again decided to try his luck on D1GP. Many Japanese met him in a friendly way and came to talk. These competitions were not so successful for the Krasnoyarsk driver. Everything ended in a technical meeting. Probable cause was the breakdown of some connection due to a strong vibration, because the motor was working at the maximum speed. The technician was not very upset about Gochu, as he acquired new experience and set ambitious goals. At the moment, Chivchyan is the most promising Russian drifter, and his main victories are yet to come.
