One such outstanding athlete, who made a significant contribution to the popularization of boxing not only in the US, but also in the world, was Diego Corrales.

The future fighter of the second featherweight was born on August 25, 1977 in Sacramento, USA. Diego Corrales was the guy who enjoyed the love of others, but at the same time managed to get to prison because of the difficult relationship with his ex-wife. Outside the ring, he was absolutely calm, balanced and smiling, but everything changed when the athlete was in the square of the ring.

Career in professionals

Diego Corrales His first fight in accordance with the rules of professional boxing was held in March 1996. Three years later, he conducted a historic battle for himself, knocking out in the seventh round of the unbeaten at that time Robert Garcia.

In March 2000, Chico (the nickname of Corrales) won the title of world champion in the version of the WBC in a duel against Derrick Gainer. The fight was stopped in the 10th round. Six months later, a young talent knocked out the famous Angela Manfredi, which allowed Diego to strengthen the reputation of the most dangerous boxer.

Jail

After the fight with Floyd, Malysh was imprisoned on the basis of a court sentence for domestic violence. After fourteen months in prison, Diego again returned to the big box and with double fury began to punch his way to the top, after a series of magnificent battles.

Victory over the Brazilian champion

Chico's popularity was gaining momentum, as manifested in his numerous interviews and photos. Diego Corrales had a successful fight with the Mexican Jose Luis Castillo. In the course of the battle, Diego twice went down, but was able to gather and in the 10th round snatched victory from the opponent, thus taking away his WBC and WBO titles. Thanks to the final felling, the fight was recognized by critics and experts as the best fight of the year.

Revenge

In the fall of 2005, a second meeting was held between Corrales and Castillo. Since the Mexican could not "make weight", then the title of the fight did not stand for titles. The result of the fight was a knockout of Corrales. It is noteworthy that the third fight of these two boxers was planned, but Castillo again failed to meet the limit and was forcibly transferred to the next category.

Accident

Unfortunately, Chico was not destined to live a long life. Diego Corrales (the cause of death - a car accident) was killed on May 7, 2007. According to official data, around 22.00 the motorcycle of the boxer collided with the car, as a result of which the sportsman was killed. Diego was 29 years old.
