"Daewoo Lanos": description, technical characteristics, reviews

In the distant 1993 Korean company Daewoo was thinking about creating an absolutely new model among mass and budget cars. Literally two years later, the first 150 test models were produced, and in 1997, "De Lanos" was presented at the popular European motor show in Geneva. Since the same year, a full-fledged production of these machines began. The task of Koreans from Daewoo was to create a more comfortable and modern car based on the existing Nexia, and as competitors competitively considered Toyota Tercel, Opel Astra and Volkswagen Golf.

Work on the car

To develop the model "Lanos" Koreans spent more than $ 400 million - the amount in those days is very decent. The design of the car was developed by specialists of the Ital Design studio, which was headed by the famous Italian Giorgetto Giugiaro. It was their version that won in the competition out of 4 possible external views of the model due to the fact that it turned out to be very bold and unusual. Lanos, whose photo can be seen in the article, is the result not only of the research center Daewoo, but also of many European giant companies in the automotive field (Delco, Porshe, GM Powertrain, etc.). The work on the creation and development of the Lanos model included dozens of tests and tests in different parts of the world. In the UK, the new "Korean" as a concept was tested for safety, stability and reliability at high speeds and speeds. In the same place, the brake system was tested. Russia, Canada and Sweden have become a kind of testing ground for Lanos tests at low temperatures, and high-temperature testing was carried out in the USA, Italy and Spain.

Release

From 1997 to 2002, this model could be found on every automobile market, regardless of the country. Those specimens that were collected in Vietnam and, accordingly, in Korea, originally went on sale to Asian countries. After there was a need to expand purchases, an official permit for the assembly was obtained by Poland, Ukraine and Russia. Among those descending from the assembly line in the last listed countries were those cars that were exported to the north of America, the west of Europe and to Australia. When production ceased, the number of sales markets fell sharply: first in Russia, then in the Republic of Korea and then in Poland.

For domestic needs of Ukraine cars come from the Zaporozhye plant, which exports copies to some European and Asian countries; Egypt receives spare parts so that Africa can produce cars for its customers.

Mass production

Produced "Deu Lanos", the characteristics of which liked the majority of consumers, as already mentioned above, first in Korea, then production migrated to Europe. For example, in Poland, its assembly was carried out until 2008. With the addition of Daewoo to the concern of General Motors since 2002, Lanos began to sell under the Chevrolet brand. So, since 2004, the Zaporizhzhya plant in Ukraine has launched a serial production of the model - up to 90 thousand copies per year were dispersed from all over the world. Since 2008, the car entered the markets of various countries under the brands Daewoo, ZAZ, Chevrolet.

Body

During the entire production of the model, the line "Deu Lanos" had 2 bodies, which received the names T100 and T150. Their most striking difference is the updated rear optics in the new generation. The most popular model of Lanos was the body sedan, less often you can find five- and three-door hatchbacks. Until 2002, a small batch of Lanos was produced in the cabriolet. To such models in the name the word Cabrio was added. Meet "Daewoo Lanos" as a cabriolet in Russia is almost impossible, most of them went to the market of the south of Europe. At the Ukrainian enterprise ZAZ produced even single commercial pick-up trucks Lanos, but such cars are now a real rarity.

Engine

The car for its history was supplied with 4 engines ranging from 1.3 to 1.6 liters, giving output from 75 to 106 horsepower. More often than not, an aggregate of 1.5 SOHC was installed, in the development of which the German specialists from the Porshe concern took part. This engine produces 86 liters. With., Allowing you to gain speed of 100 km / h in 12.5 seconds. The maximum that can give a car with such a power unit does not exceed 172 km / h.

Weaker engines with volumes of 1.3 and 1.4 liters had 75 and 77 liters each. from. respectively. An interesting fact is that the 1.3 liter engine was initially produced both with an injector and with a carburetor.

In general, all engines are reliable enough and with proper maintenance, without any problems, overcame the mark of 300 thousand kilometers without major repairs. All three units described above are equipped with an 8-valve cylinder head. The 1.6-liter (106 hp) engine has 16 valves and is structurally different from the other powerplants on the Daewoo Lanos, the type of gas distribution mechanism in which there are no phase adjustments.

If to speak about the expense, for the same 1,5-liter motor the manufacturer has specified 6,7 liters on one hundred. Unfortunately, it was hardly possible to reach such an indicator at least one owner of Lanos - the average route / city consumption is 8 and 10 liters. Therefore, this aspect can be attributed to the minuses of the machine.

Car Lanos: price

The price for the model Daewoo Lanos in Russia, regardless of the brand under which it was issued (ZAZ, Chevrolet), began with a mark of 254 thousand rubles and never exceeded 400 thousand.

Transmission

From the very first day of the Daewoo release, Lanos was supplied with a manual transmission with five gears. Such a "Lanos" transmission was famous for its reliability and very rarely provided trouble for the owners. Some drivers say that on their machines a manual transmission with a regular oil change nursed more than 300 thousand kilometers, without requiring any replacement of even one spare part. "Deu Lanos" entered the Ukrainian market in December 2011. The copies had an automatic transmission. As for mechanics, there are few complaints about the automatic transmission system. This box supports all the necessary functions: engine braking, downshifts and even sports mode.

Declared by the manufacturer clearance from Daewoo Lanos is 150 mm, which, say, is not the best indicator in the class. Therefore, the installation of protection of the crankcase and gearbox was the first necessity after buying a car. Driving on easy terrain or dirt is the weak point of Daewoo Lanos models.

In conclusion, having analyzed many tests and characteristics from car magazines and owners, we can say that the good work of the suspension and its reliability, the low cost of the car, the optimal ratio of price and quality, to the advantages of the Lanos model (the reviews confirm these facts). To drawbacks - high fuel consumption in the city, a small ground clearance and a small interior, where especially crowded passengers in the back seat. Daewoo Lanos refers to the budget segment, where each representative can identify a lot of pros and cons. Importantly, this model, unlike other representatives of this class, has a rich history and great popularity.
