Can I take Suprastin during pregnancy?

For the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis, dermatitis and rhinitis, hay fever, urticaria, vasomotor rhinitis, allergic medicinal and anaphylactoid reactions, angioedema, serum sickness, eczema, during the reaction due to blood transfusion, the antihistamine drug Chloropyramin is used. But he is known in the pharmacy network more under a different name - "Suprastin". This drug is included in VED (a list of vital and essential medicines). The receptors for histamine that causes most allergies are effectively blocked in the body with the drug Suprastin. Indications for the use of this medication are all the diseases listed above. Use of this remedy is allowed only as directed by the doctor.

But is it possible to apply Suprastin to pregnant women? This and other questions about the contraindications of the drug should be answered before choosing it for treatment. Pharmacological action of the drug consists in its blocking effect on the histamine H1 receptors. In addition, chloropyramine stimulates and has a sedative effect on the central nervous system and a peripheral effect on m-holinoretseptory. But, despite the successful application for the treatment of a number of diseases, the drug "Suprastin" in pregnancy is not recommended. Why?

To date, studies on the use of antihistamines in pregnancy have not been conducted. Therefore, the use of the drug "Suprastin" during pregnancy is not allowed, especially in the first trimester of pregnancy and in the last month of its course.

The drug "Suprastin" can only be used according to the doctor's prescription: with potential benefits for the mother exceeding the risk for the fetus. Breastfeeding mother should not use chloropyramine during lactation, but if her health requires it, then breast-feeding is suspended. It is also unacceptable to treat this medication with preterm or newborn (up to 1 month) children.

For patients of any age, it is not prescribed with a hypersensitivity to the ingredients of the agent. The drug is contraindicated in patients with peptic ulcers, glaucoma, respiratory disorders, prostate hypertrophy, as well as with symptoms of obstructive diseases.

"Suprastin" is the trade name of a medicinal product, which is manufactured by the pharmaceutical plant "EGIS" (Budapest, Hungary). Its nonproprietary international name is Chloropyramine. The chemical name for the rational nomenclature is N- (p-chlorobenzyl) -N ', N'-dimethyl-N-2-pyridylethylenediamine hydrochloride.

The drug is made in the form of a solution (available on prescription) or tablets (released without a prescription). The solution for injections is transparent, but can be slightly greenish, has a characteristic faint odor, is released in ampoules. Tablets do not have a smell, or it is quite weak, their color is grayish-white or white, in shape they resemble a disc with a bevel. Each tablet is engraved with "SUPRASTIN" on one side and risk on the other. "Suprastin" in pregnancy and in the form of tablets, and as a solution for injection is contraindicated.

The solution for injections is issued in ampoules of colorless glass, the capacity of each is 1 ml. In 1 ampoule (or 1 ml of solution) contains 20 mg of active substance - chloropyramine hydrochloride, dissolved in distilled water for injection. For 5 pieces, the ampoules are packed in a blister and, together with the instruction, fit into cardboard boxes. The instruction contains a warning that "Suprastin" is contraindicated in pregnancy. "Suprastin" in the form of tablets goes on sale for 2 blisters (10 tablets in a blister pack) in a cardboard box with an instruction enclosed in it or in bottles of dark glass (in a vial of 20 tablets). Each tablet contains 25 mg of chloropyramine hydrochloride, as well as such auxiliary substances as potato starch, lactose monohydrate, sodium carboxymethyl starch (type A), gelatin, talc, stearic acid. Store the drug in a place inaccessible to children and protected from the sun, at room temperature.
