Brain concussion

Concussion is the easiest type of craniocerebral injury, in which reversible changes occur in the brain, but without organic changes in its structure. It can occur after a mechanical effect on the skull or on the entire body (a traffic accident, a fall). As a result of the application of these forces, the substance of the brain itself shakes - the connections between the hemispheres, various brain centers, the trunk and individual cells of the brain suffer. With full treatment, these lesions recover within a couple of weeks, and the victim gradually pours into normal life.

Signs of concussion of the brain:

1) Episode of a violation of consciousness. It happens so weak and short-lived that a person who is under the impression of a transferred incident can not always remember this violation. Violation of consciousness can manifest as a short-term comparison (inhibition or confusion) or complete loss of consciousness, which can last from seconds to many hours. And, the more time a person after a suffered trauma will spend unconscious, the less favorable his prognosis for recovery.

2) Quite often the concussion of the brain is accompanied by retrograde amnesia, that is, the events that the victim experienced before the trauma are forgotten. He can not remember what he was doing, where he was going, what were the reasons for the tragedy that had happened to him. In most cases, memory to the patient after some, sometimes quite a long time, comes back.

3) Concussion of the brain is often manifested by a diffuse headache, that is, pain that is spread throughout the head, as it penetrates into every cell of the brain. Gradually, nausea and vomiting are added to the pains. And there may be nonspecific vegetative disorders, such as, for example, gradually increasing weakness, profuse sweating, dizziness, malaise, bouts of tachycardia.

A person who has suffered from a brain injury must constantly be under medical supervision until the symptoms of brain concussion disappear. Immediately one can not accurately judge the depth of the organ's damage and the severity of the condition of the victim. In the most severe injuries, there is a so-called light gap, during which the human condition improves markedly. However, after a short time, the victim's condition can easily get out of control and begin to deteriorate rapidly. To exclude this condition, it is necessary not only to immediately seek medical help, but also not to refuse the proposed hospitalization. After all, two to three days spent on a hospital bed under the supervision of specialists can restore lost health, and sometimes - save lives.

To diagnose cerebral concussion, diagnostic features are the features of the clinic, the radiography of the skull, which is carried out to detect possible damage to the cranial bones obtained at the time of impact, MRI diagnosis of the structure of the brain, which allows to exclude or vice versa, to confirm the presence of organic lesions. The examination of a victim with a brain concussion is performed by a neurologist.

Treatment of this pathology consists of bed rest, restriction of the information load, the appointment of symptomatic therapy, and when the diagnosis is confirmed, the rate of metabolic and vascular therapy is immediately prescribed, and the multivitamins and adaptogenes, and adequate nutrition are also of great importance in this difficult period.
