"Batman": chronology of events and films

Among the huge number of superheroes Batman always stood out. In fact, unlike Superman and Spiderman, he did not possess superhuman abilities and, fighting crime, he had to rely only on his human strengths. Perhaps, that is why it is so popular.

A significant contribution to the popularization of Batman was made by the cinema. However, it is often difficult not to get lost in the events of numerous adaptations of the franchise called "Batman". The chronology of events, as well as the motivation of the main characters, as well as their prehistory, quite often vary, depending on the scenario of the movie or television series. Therefore, to understand them, you need to find out about all the screen versions in order.

Cult hero Batman

Batman as a character first appeared in "Detective comics" in the very end of the thirties. Soon this hero became very fond of the public, and he was given a separate series of comic books. And in 1943 this character was also given a whole TV series.

So, who is the Dark Knight Gotham Batman? Under the guise of a bat hides a billionaire, a philanthropist and a playboy called Bruce Wayne. A double psychological life of this person, ensured in all concepts, was pushed by a child's psychological trauma. The fact is that the parents of little Bruce were killed, and right before his eyes. Difficultly experiencing what happened, he decides to devote his life to fighting crime. Only, knowing firsthand about the imperfection of the justice system, Wayne decides to become himself a policeman, a judge, and sometimes an executioner.

The fact that Wayne is Batman is known to a few people close to him. Among them, the faithful butler Wayne is Alfred Penniworth. Actually replacing the orphaned Bruce parents, over the years Alfred became his assistant, mentor and confidant (sometimes he is positioned as a guardian).

Under the guise of Batman Robin's assistant at various times, various heroes were hiding. In most cases (although there were exceptions), Batman chose candidates for the role of Robin himself. The Robin's chronology is only in comic books, in the films, only one hero acts in the role of Robin.

Another "Batman man" is the police James Gordon, who often helps and covers the Dark Knight.

At one time, the creators of comics tried to use the female version of the Batman and Robin duet: Batvumen and Batgerl, but they were not so popular.

TV series about Batman 1943 and 1949.

By 1942, when Batman "knocked" three years, his image was already fully registered as it is known and loved today. By that time, the character's motivation, character, relationships with other people, as well as helpers and enemies were clearly defined.

The following year, a small black and white television series called "Batman" was shot about the hero, who became a cult hero. The chronology of the series, and most importantly, the plot was largely changed. Wayne left Robin, as well as the transformed Alfred (in early comics he looked like a grown-up lover of Bavarian beer, and with the release of the television series began to resemble a typical British butler and got a mustache). At the same time, the hero himself was made a secret agent of the US leadership, who fought with a Japanese spy for fifteen episodes.

Six years later, another television series dedicated to the Dark Knight was filmed, titled "Batman and Robin." In this adaptation of the Batman franchise, the chronology of events was closer to the comics, although the creators did not save themselves from the numerous "grand pianos in the bushes". Fortunately, most viewers did not pay attention to this and enjoyed the spectacle with pleasure.

Batman in the sixties

Despite the popularity of the hero, the next attempt to transfer his adventure to the screen was made in 1966. It was then that the new TV series Batman was launched. The chronology of the events in this project and most of the characters were very close to canonical and much better than the last film adaptation. At the same time the tone of the television series was more comical and different from the original gloomy atmosphere of comics.

It is noteworthy that at that time it was the most successful film version of Batman, and the series lasted on air for three seasons, and in parallel a full-length film with the same actors was shot. Artist of the main role - Adam West, for many years became Batman for many people.

A series of films about Batman in the nineties

Again, to try to revive the popular franchise took a chance only in 1989, releasing the film "Batman". The chronology of events in many respects corresponded to original comic books.

At the same time, the protagonist was left loyal to Alfred and the Joker's crazy opponent, but they took Robin and most other assistants. The film became one of the most successful screen versions of stories about Batman. In many respects this contributed to the performers of the main roles Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson.

Three years later, the sequel, entitled "Batman Returns," was withdrawn. Here the main role again played Keaton, and opponents of it were the Catwoman and the villain Penguin. This screen version was inferior to the previous one, but it was still warmly received by the audience.

In 1995, the third film of the series - "Batman Forever" was released.

The main role this time went to Val Kilmer, in addition, the director was replaced (the first two parts were shot by Tim Burton, and the third - Joel Schumacher). In the film, played a whole galaxy of great actors (in particular, Jim Carrey performed excellently as a villain of the Mysterious), but this did not help the film surpass the film adaptation of 1989. Also noteworthy is that in this part appears Robin.

Two years later, the fourth part was released on the screen under the title "Batman and Robin".

Here the main role was entrusted to the charming doctor of the "First Aid" George Clooney. Despite the fact that Batgerl appeared in this film, and also Arnold Schwarzenegger was shot, it did not save the film from failure.

On this in the nineties, the films of the Batman brand ceased to be produced. The chronology of the movie in this series (before the restart) consisted of as many as four screen versions. Also planned was a fifth and a separate film about Robin, but due to the failure of the tape "Batman and Robin", all these projects were never implemented.

Three films about Batman Christopher Nolan

Only eight years later was finally released a new film about the Dark Knight, and he was called "Batman: The Beginning". The director was Christopher Nolan, and the main role was assigned to Christian Bale. It was the restart of the whole story about Batman.

The new screen version turned out to be more than successful. Christian Bale managed to perfectly play the role of Batman, so he was invited to appear in the second film called "The Dark Knight". His screen opponent was the Joker in the brilliant performance of Heath Ledger. This film has become a cult, and the pictures from it with funny inscriptions and commentaries have become classics. Moreover, according to the unanimous opinion of the audience, this film adaptation is recognized as the best in Batman's entire history.

The phenomenal success of the "Dark Knight" meant that the continuation would be necessary, and he was removed after four years. The third film of the new series "The Dark Knight: The Renaissance of the Legend" was called. Bale as Batman, Gary Oldman in the role of James Gordon and many other famous actors helped the film to earn at the box office more than the previous one, but this performance did not reach the "Dark Knight" in quality.

Batman in the new DC universe

After the successful screen version of the stories about superheroes that the Marvel comics empire implemented, their DC competitors, who own Superman and Batman, decided to create their own movie. At first, they restarted the Superman franchise by shooting the movie "Man of Steel."

However, in their next film project, DC decided to use two superheroes at once, and pushed them together. So there was a film of 2016 "Batman against Superman: At the dawn of justice". Unfortunately, Christian Bale refused to play the role of the Dark Knight in this adaptation, so the new Batman became the actor Ben Affleck.

Also, DC plans to continue to make films about favorite superheroes, in particular a character named Batman. The chronology of the films that should soon appear on the screens is the following: "The suicide squad" (2016), "Justice League" consists of two parts, the first was announced in 2017, the second is missing. Also, the audience is promised a solo film about Batman in 2019.

The new series "Gotham"

Not so long ago, a series about the youth of Batman under the name "Gotham" appeared on the screens.

Here the role of the thirteen-year-old hero was performed by David Mazouz. This television series is mainly devoted to attempts to investigate the murder of Batman's parents, as well as the formation of the personality of the hero. We can say that "Gotham" is a kind of analogue of the series about Superman's youth "Smallville".

Despite the many films about the man-bat, viewers are not tired of them and are looking forward to new encounters on the screen with their favorite character called Batman. The chronology of films, despite several restarts, tries not to depart very much from the events in the source, especially recently, which was admired with enthusiasm by fans all over the world.
