Barbaris Aurea description

This is a dwarf shrub with a compact wide-crowned cranium, with fairly long annual growths and leaves of lemon-yellow saturated color. The crown of an adult plant has a diameter of up to 1 m, height is about 0.8 m. The bush grows slowly enough. Yellow-green young shoots have single thorns of the same color. Leaves are small, almost rounded or spatulate, graceful. Their length is 1-3 cm. In autumn, on the solar patches can acquire an orange-yellow tone. By the end of summer a little green, autumn color - yellowish-orange.

Flowering and ripening of fruits

Barberry Aurea blooms in May with small, unremarkable, whitish, delicate flowers that are gathered in bundles. At the end of September, numerous bright red shiny fruits are ripening, which are preserved on the branches in winter.

Growth conditions

Barbaris Aurea is a light-loving plant, but can tolerate and partial shade. But the leaves then lose their bright color, start to turn green and acquire a lemon-yellow color. In the bright sun, barberry is also not worth planting, as the leaves burn.

Despite the fact that it is a drought-resistant and heat-resistant plant, young bushes should be watered once a week.

Barbaris Aurea is undemanding to soil fertility, but most prefer alkaline soil. The plant is able to tolerate urban conditions well, is resistant to diseases and pests. Bushes are winter-hardy, but the tips of annual shoots often freeze. The first 2-3 years of barberry Aurea (photo of the plant attached) must be covered with lagets for the winter. Requires pruning undeveloped shoots.

Reproduction and landing rules

Barbaris Aurea reproduces by cuttings, grafting, seeds, bush division and layers. The simplest methods: seed and cuttings. Seeds are stratified before sowing: they are filled in a bag and placed in wet sawdust or moss. So they remain until April - May at a temperature of 3-5 ° C, then they are planted on a bed or in a greenhouse. You can also sow seeds in the fall. The seedlings are planted in early spring or autumn. In spring, old bushes need to be thinned out. When the green hedges are arranged, pruning is carried out the next year after planting. In the future, pruning is carried out twice a year: in early June and in the first decade of August.

Landing is recommended to be carried out on sunny places with drained soil. After the landing, mulching is performed. Top dressing begins to do a year after planting. In spring, nitrogen fertilizers are introduced, then bushes are fertilized once every three to four years.

Application

Barbaris Aurea is an effective plant that can decorate a stony garden. From the bush you can get magnificent curbs. Barbaris Aurea looks great in flower gardens. Particularly beautiful combination of different varieties with yellow, green and purple leaves.
