At what diseases is the motherwort used? Contraindications

The drug is available in the form of a tincture, 1 liter of which is prepared from 200 ml of plant material by infusion of 70% ethyl alcohol. Sold in bottles of dark glass of 50 ml. Also, the medicine is made in the form of grass powder, packaged in filter bags of 1.5 g. They are packed into cardboard packs of 10, 20, 24 and 30 bags. Ointment is a means of OTC. Contraindications - hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

The active substances of the drug are:

  • Alkaloids (natural nitrogen-containing organic compounds are contained only in tincture, but not in grass), including L-stachydrine;
  • Iridoids (secondary plant metabolites), including leonurine;
  • Diterpenes (products of biosynthesis), which include part of essential oils;
  • Flavonoids - natural phenolic compounds, soluble in water or fats;
  • Caffeic acid - an aromatic organic compound (unsaturated carboxylic acid or diatomic phenol), is an intermediate in the biosynthesis of lignin;
  • Tannins - natural phenolic compounds, possessing tanning properties and astringent taste;
  • Resins - substances released during normal physiological metabolism of the plant;
  • Potassium is an important biogenic element necessary for the normal functioning of the heart muscle.

All these substances contain the drug "Motherwort". Contraindications may be caused by intolerance to any component.

In addition, the composition of the drug includes cardiac glycosides of plant origin, which since ancient times have been used not only to excite cardiac activity, but also to poison the arrowheads. Saponins contained in the drug have hypocholesterolemic (reduce coagulation and fat levels in the blood) and cardiotonic action (the ability to increase the force of the heartbeat), increase the absorption of other medicinal substances, and has a sedative effect. Due to the complex composition and various properties of the plant's biologically active substances, the drug "Pustyrnik" is distinguished by a wide range of therapeutic properties. Contraindications may depend on the general condition of the body and the age of the patient, so it is necessary to consult a doctor.

Motherwort refers to a chemically diverse group of herbal medicines that cause a reduction in emotional tension and calm, while not having a hypnotic effect, but facilitates the onset of natural sleep and makes it deep. In addition to sedative and cardiotonic properties, antihypertensive (lowering blood pressure), negative chronotropic (decrease in the frequency of heartbeats), the actions are characterized by the drug "Shepherd". Contraindications of the drug extend to the early stages of pregnancy in connection with the ability to stimulate menstruation, as well as with the effect of contracting the uterus with its constituents stachydrine and leonurine. These warnings concern the tincture, but not the medicinal product "Motherwort Grass".

The grass and tincture of the motherwort act differently on pregnant women. Contraindications regarding tincture are associated with its ability to cause menstruation and put pregnancy at risk of interruption. This effect has alkaloids motherwort. But alkaloids dissolve in alcohol and do not dissolve in water. Thus, it can be said with certainty that while tincture of the motherwort is contraindicated during pregnancy, it is possible to use tea from the herb to relieve anxiety. However, in hypertension, herbal tea is less effective, since alkaloids also contribute to lowering blood pressure. Motherwort tincture can be used (gently!) In the last 4 weeks of pregnancy to prepare for childbirth: relieves spasms and anxiety. Used to ease postpartum anxiety and mood elevation. But there is a risk of aggravation of severe bleeding, so taking the drug is only possible for the purpose and under the supervision of a doctor.

The strength of this plant lies in its ability to relieve stress and anxiety. Since many processes in the body depend on an emotional response to stress, the motherwort is able to normalize various functions. But the most appropriate and effective use is when high blood pressure is a sign of excessive stress and anxiety. The consequences of the effect of this plant on the nervous system are very significant. Higher doses of tincture act as a sedative to improve sleep, while smaller doses during the day give energy, balancing the anxious nature of the patient. The same action is provided by the herbaceous motherwort. Contraindications may be associated with an overdose of this herb and cause drowsiness and impaired concentration.
