Acyclovir-acry: instruction

  Acyclovir-acry is an antiviral drug. The product is available in the form of small tablets of blue color with blue patches and white spots of flat-cylindrical shape. In addition to the tablets, there is also Acyclovir-acry ointment. The main active substance of the drug is acyclovir, other ingredients - microcrystalline cellulose, indigocarmine, polyvinylpyrrolidone, magnesium stearate, purified water, sodium starch glycollate.

Application

Inside and intravenously, the drug is prescribed for the treatment of various viral infections, as well as for their prevention. The drug is used in complex therapy with pronounced immunodeficiency, in people who have undergone bone marrow transplantation. Acyclovir-acry is used to prevent cytomegalovirus after bone marrow transplantation, and for topical use in keratitis and other eye injuries caused by a virus called Herpes simplex. External ointment is used for infectious skin lesions caused by the same virus, as well as the bacterium Varicella zoster.

Dosing

The drug is taken orally 200-400 mg three to five times a day by adults and children older than two years. Children up to two years of age are given a dose that is equal to half of the adult. The duration of treatment, as a rule, is from 5 to 10 days.

The dosage regimen should be changed on an individual basis in case of renal insufficiency.

Intravenous drip Acyclovir-acry is prescribed for adults and children from 12 years to 5-10 mg / kg with an interval between administration in 8 hours. Children under 12 years old are appointed by the attending physician. For newborns, it is 10 mg / kg, with the same interval between administrations.

Both topically and externally the drug is applied five times a day. The duration of treatment and dose is directly influenced by the indications, dosage form and available symptoms.

Side effects

When taking the medication inside, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, skin rash, acute abdominal pain, mild dizziness, decreased concentration, increased fatigue, insomnia, or drowsiness may occur. Very rarely, hair loss occurs, an increase in the concentration of urea, bilirubin or creatinine in the blood.

With intravenous administration , the following disorders can occur: crystalluria, renal failure, encephalopathy (eg, hallucinations, tremor, psychosis, agitation), inflammation at the injection site, phlebitis, vomiting nausea.

If acyclovir-acry is used topically, you need to be ready for a slight burning sensation in the area of application, blepharitis, acupuncture, conjunctivitis. If we talk about side effects after the application of ointment, it should be noted the possibility of the appearance of rash, itching, erythema, peeling.

All of the above side effects are manifested only as a result of improper application of the remedy or in cases if it was taken in spite of contraindications to the use.

The drug is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the main active ingredient-acyclovir. In pregnancy, the use of this remedy can be allowed only in cases where the benefits for women exceed the possible risk for the child. During the lactation, the use of Acyclovir-acry is prohibited, since it is excreted with milk.

The drug is not recommended for any abnormal kidney function, as acute renal failure may develop . Remember: treatment of elderly patients should be carried out with increasing water load and under the close supervision of a doctor, as people age increase the half-life of acyclovir.
