ZAZ 1103: specifications and photos

ZAZ-1103 is a compact B-class passenger car. The car was produced serially from 1999 to 2011 at the Zaporozhye Automobile Plant. After reaching the broad masses, the model became truly popular, especially in the domestic market in Ukraine. To date, ZAZ-1103 "Slavuta-Nova" remains one of the most affordable and cheap in operation cars. What is this car? What are the characteristics and fuel consumption of ZAZ-1103? Design

Model ZAZ-1103 became the heir of the morally obsolete "Tavria" (ZAZ-1102), which was developed back in Soviet times. Few people know, but in the development of the new "Slavuta" took part concern "Daewoo Motors". This allowed to improve the quality of the car assembly and its technical characteristics.

The car body belongs to the format "liftback". However, many scolded such a vulgar design of wheel arches and the fifth door. The latter is clearly separated from the body. Note that in the late 90's at ZAZ was produced "Slavuta" in the body type "station wagon". The car received the nickname "Dana", but was withdrawn because of its illiquidity.

Regardless of the configuration, the ZAZ-1103 is equipped with 13-inch wheel disks. Ground clearance - 15 centimeters. But it often is not enough even with a short wheelbase. When fully loaded, the car sags heavily. The staff wheels are very small, and they are difficult to replace - consider many motorists.

The interior is practically the same as the old Tavria. There is also a tight interior and hard plastic. However, designers tried to work on the door cards and seats, giving them a more modern look. The handlebars are four-spoke, without adjusting for height and reach.
The seats are located so close to each other that sometimes the driver touches the knee with an adjacent passenger. About the space behind it does not have to. As for the trunk, its volume is 300 liters. The manufacturer has provided for the folding of the rear sofa, which allows to increase the volume of the trunk to 700 liters.

Specifications

Despite the budget, the line of engines was quite extensive for the car ZAZ-1103 "Slavuta." The characteristics of the engines were different. So, let's consider these engines in order:

  • MEMZ-245. This motor was installed on the first series of "Slavuta" from 1999 to 2001. The unit had an 8-valve arrangement and a carburettor power system. The same motor was used at Tavria. With its volume of 1.1 liters, it produced 51 horsepower of power. The torque at 3 thousand revolutions is 79 Nm.
  • MEMZ-2457. It is an improved version of the previous unit. Power increased to 58 horsepower. The working volume increased by 0.1 liters. Increased and torque. Now it is 90 Nm. Such a motor is found on the "Slavuta" most often. The unit was installed on the 2000-2006 model year.
  • MEMZ-2477. This is a new generation of engines, which differed injection fuel injection system. It was installed on cars from 2006 to 2011. The maximum capacity of the unit at a volume of 1.2 liters is 63 horsepower. The twisting moment - 96 Nanometers.
  • MEMZ-3011. This carburetor engine capacity of 1.3 liters. Its power is the same as in the previous injector version. The twisting moment - 101 Nanometers at 3,5 thousand turns. Years of production - from 2001 to 2006.
  • MEMZ-3017. This, you can say, is the "top" for the "Slavuta" unit. With its volume of 1.3 liters, the engine produced 66 horsepower. It was installed on "Slavuta" from 2002 to 2011. The engine is characterized by injector fuel injection.

All of the above units were equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox and met the toxicity standards "Euro-3".

Expenditure, dynamics

Because of the small volume of the engine, the car has a low fuel consumption. In the suburban mode, it is 5.6 liters for 1.3-liter engines. In urban conditions, this parameter increases to 8 liters per 100 kilometers. The maximum speed of the car is 157 kilometers per hour. Acceleration to a hundred - 16 seconds on the most powerful engine.

Chassis

In front on "Slavuta" an independent suspension of the "Macpherson" type is used. Rear - a semi-independent beam with hydraulic shock absorbers and coil springs. In addition, the car is equipped with a stabilizer bar. Steering - Rack type. Tires - radial, size 155/70 R13.

At the moment, the average cost of the car is from 1 to 2 thousand dollars in the domestic market (in Ukraine). The owners' comments mark several positive aspects of this car. The first point is cheap and affordable parts. ZAZ-1103 can be repaired by hand. The machine has a fairly comfortable fit despite its small size.

Now let us note the shortcomings of the model. The first minus is a small engine resource. They seldom nursed up to one hundred thousand kilometers, even with timely maintenance. Many owners do not advise taking models with a carburetor power system. Injection requires constant settings, which may be required at the most inopportune moment (right in the path). Inside it is quite crowded and noisy. No air conditioning and constantly air. There is no possibility of installing other discs or rubber without significant modifications.

This model is perfect as a summer residence option or as the first in the possession of a car.
