How to connect to the Internet

In order to access resources in the global network, you need to connect to the Internet. This is a mandatory condition for personal computers and all portable devices. Although recently there have appeared solutions that connect to the Internet in the background (invisible to the user), even with their use, all settings are taken over by the provider. The method of connection depends on the type of network interface used, and since there are quite a few of them, a full review of all possible options is beyond the scope of this article. We will consider the option using a wireless 3G modem. Also, we'll show you how to connect to the Internet through a local network through another computer.

Wireless access

Modems, in which the exchange of data with the provider occurs over the radio waves, without the use of wires, are becoming more popular every year. This is easily explained by the fact that the cost of laptops is declining, their sales volumes are increasing, and the only option to be online all the time is wireless access. Consider how to configure the connection to the Internet when using a USB 3G modem in the operating system Windows 7.

First of all, you need to install the device driver. This small program can be stored in the internal memory of the modem and automatically installed when the autorun function is active. Otherwise, you should install it from the accompanying CD-ROM or by using another computer with access to the Network, download from the developer's site. After the device is determined, you can create a connection to the Internet.

It is necessary to click the right mouse button on the screen image in the system tray and select "Network Management Center". Here you need to follow the path "Setting up a new connection - Connecting to the Internet - Dial-up". Then dial the number, the name of the users and the corresponding password. This information can be obtained from the provider that provides access services. After the verification, the system will offer to begin the review. It's that simple.

One cable - two computers

Sometimes there is a need to connect to the Internet not directly, but through another computer. For example, there is often a situation where you need to connect several devices to the network at once. This method allows several times to reduce the cost of payment for access services. If the provider does not bind to a specific MAC address, it is sufficient to turn on the network wire in a switch or hub, where LAN cables from other computers are also connected. Access will be equal, and no additional settings will not have to be performed.

However, to prevent such inclusion, many providers strictly specify the network card number of a specific computer. If you plug the cable into another "hardware", then the Internet will not work. You can, however, insert the second network card into the computer, and pull the cable from it to the switch. Then all the other devices included there will be able to access the Network - via the first computer. It will only be necessary to allow sharing through the adapter settings in the Network Management Center.
